Potassium Citrate
Potassium citrate (also known as tripotassium citrate) is a potassium salt of citric acid with the molecular formula K3C6H5O7. It is a white, hygroscopic crystalline powder. It is odorless with a saline taste. Potassium citrate is another antioxidant and buffering additive that is found in a number of food products including cakes and biscuits, cheese and jam.
Potassium Citrate is commonly administered as a dietary supplement. It helps in maintaining the heath and functioning of our vital internal organs and prevents diseases. It is also used as a urinary alkalizer in the treatment of gout and kidney stones. It helps in decreasing the levels of uric acid in the body by increasing the citrate and potassium levels in the body as well as raising the pH level of urine.
